Hi, I’m Nicole — the mom, homeschool teacher, and caffeine-powered human behind Semicrunchy.com.
I created this space because I wanted a place for moms who live in the middle ground. The ones who care about health and wellness, but also have days where dinner is whatever can be heated in ten minutes. The ones who want a calmer home and a good routine, but also have kids who are loud, curious, beautifully neurodivergent, or just gloriously themselves. The ones who want to be intentional without being overwhelmed.
If that sounds like you, you’re in good company here.
Where “Semicrunchy” Comes From
For most of my adult life, I’ve felt like I didn’t fit neatly into any parenting category. I wasn’t fully crunchy, but I wasn’t fully conventional either. I liked natural options and low-tox products, but I also liked convenience. I cared about nutrition, but I also relied on frozen meals when life demanded it. I wanted balance, simplicity, and sustainability, but I didn’t want it to become a source of pressure.
Over time, “semicrunchy” became the best way to describe how I live: mindful, but realistic. Healthy-ish. Natural-ish. One step at a time, with grace for myself and the season I’m in.
That philosophy has shaped our homeschool, our home, and my entire approach to motherhood.
Homeschooling, Our Way
I homeschool my child with a mix of structure and flexibility. We lean into curiosity, hands-on learning, and a rhythm that supports his needs and personality. Every child learns differently, and I’ve learned that homeschooling isn’t about recreating a traditional classroom. It’s about building an environment where your child can thrive, grow, and actually enjoy learning.
Some days that looks like carefully planned lessons.
Some days it looks like math done with Legos at the kitchen table.
Most days it’s a little of both.
If you’re looking for perfection, you won’t find it here.
If you’re looking for honesty, encouragement, and practical ideas—this space is for you.

A Few Things About Me
A few quick facts, just so you know who’s behind the words:
- I’m a single mom of three incredible, curious kids who keep life interesting in all the best ways.
- Coffee is my love language.
- Homeschooling wasn’t in my original plan, but it’s become one of the most meaningful parts of our family’s rhythm.
- I believe in learning environments that support each child’s unique personality, pace, and needs.
- I’ve spent years finding a balance between natural living and convenience—and I love helping other moms find what works for them without pressure or perfectionism.
Why I Built This Community
Motherhood is often shared through filters, highlight reels, and unrealistic standards. But what most moms really need is support, honesty, and someone who understands what it’s like to do your best on days when you feel like you’re running on fumes.
This blog is my way of saying: you’re not alone. You don’t have to be perfect. You don’t have to fit into a box. You’re doing enough, and you’re doing better than you think.
Thank you for being here.
I’m truly glad you found your way to this space.
Welcome to semicrunchy living.
